  • Why a two-year (120 ECTS) master?

Many MSc programmes in Europe have a two-year (120 ECTS) duration. Therefore, the Master in Biological Sciences will be fully recognised all over Europe and the rest of the World.

  • What is the language of the master?

The language of the master will be exclusively English.

  • What is the English level required for the students?

Students are required to show English skills good enough to follow the classes. No particular certificates are required but at least a B1 level, or equivalent, would be convenient. The academic commission may require a personal interview with the candidates before admission.

  • What is the English requirement for the teaching staff?

All teaching staff from the University of Vigo participating in the master has been accredited by the Language Center of the University of Vigo (part of the European Confederation of Language Centres in Higher Education) for teaching in English.

  • What is the academic and scientific background of the teaching staff?

Most members of the teaching staff participating in the master have a PhD and are either Full Professors or Associate Professors at the University of Vigo or professionals from different research institutions or industries. All members have a strong international background and a wide expertise in undergraduate and graduate teaching. The teaching staff covers an ample range of areas: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Botany, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Ecology, Entrepreneurship, Finances, Operations and Quality Management, Genetics, Human Resources Management, Immunology, Informatics, Nutrition, Marketing, Molecular Medicine, Plant Physiology, Soil Science, Statistics, and Zoology.

  • What is the period to make a registration in the 2014 master courses?

There are two registration periods. The first is opened from the 28th of June to the 4th of July, and the second from the 27th of August to the 3rd of September.  Information about registration  will be provided in the master web page at due course.

  • What is the master´s fee?

The cost of each ECTS 31.26€ in the first application period and 38.54€ in the second application period.

  • Is there a minimum or maximum number of students allowed in the master?

There is not a minimum number of students required. The maximum number of students allowed is 60.

  • When is the teaching period expected to start?

Classes are expected to start in October 2014.

  • How can students achieve a specialization title in the master?

The master has four specialization tracks: Molecular Biology for Health Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, and Green-Industries Management. Each track has 7 optional subjects and students have to choose a total of 6 or 7 subjects from any track. The students who take the majority of optional subjects from a given track achieve its specialization.

  • Is there a possibility for continuing the studies with a PhD thesis?

Yes. The master is focused on both professional and research activities. For those students interested in doing a PhD thesis, there are two doctoral programmes attached to the master
